Second Trimester Pregnancy Essentials

As my second trimester draws to a close and I make my way into the third and final pregnancy trimester, I thought I'd share some essential products that I couldn't have been without between weeks 12 and 27  of pregnancy.

Tummy Oil

My tummy (and boobs, and hips, and bum, and thighs...) has certainly grown during the second trimester, so I've been using products to keep the skin feeling supple and moisturised to prevent stretch marks and itching as the skin stretches. In the morning I like the Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion as it's pretty light and sinks in super quickly, but in the evening I like to use either the Palmer's Cocoa Butter Tummy Butter which is really think and more heavily scented but extremely moisturising, or the My Expert Midwife Fantastic Skin Elastic Oil. I've found the ritual of using these products helps me bond with baby a little more too!

Pregnancy Pillow

It's really important to stop sleeping in your back or tummy as your bump grows as it can be dangerous for baby, so sleeping specifically on your left side is recommended. This can sometimes become a little uncomfortable, especially as your bump gets bigger, but spooning a good pregnancy pillow is a lifesaver! Since I've started using mine to keep my hips aligned I've noticed I sleep better, I don't roll onto my back as much as I haven't suffered any hip pain (touch wood). I was kindly gifted a Kally Body Pillow and I'm obsessed with it! It's perfectly firm, well stuffed, super long, soft and a must-have for the second trimester and beyond.

Maternity Bras

It's no secret that your boobs grow during pregnancy, and they also become a lot more sensitive. I invested in maternity bras quite early on and I'm so glad I did....normal bras just don't cut it anymore! I love the H&M maternity bras for affordability, comfort and a huge range of styles, but I do also have one from Jojo Maman Bebe that's super pretty and comfy too.

Maternity Leggings

Gone are the days of wearing jeans around the house, or even joggers (because they don't fit)! Being comfortable is all you want with a growing tummy, so maternity leggings have been a true staple in my at-home wardrobe. I have a couple of pairs, one from Love Leggings that are wonderfully thick and warm with a supportive feeling waistband and another from ASOS which are a little thinner but still really super comfortable with a cosy jumper.

Dungarees

Perhaps a random essential, and perhaps not for everyone, but I couldn't have been without my maternity dungarees over the last couple of months. I have three pairs and love each pair dearly! Maternity jeans aren't as comfortable as I thought they'd be and I found I was constantly pulling them up, even now my bump is bigger, so dungarees are a winner. Plus, they look super cute on pregnant ladies! My most affordable pair are from Boohoo, I loved these in the warmer months with a tank top or t-shirt. I have a black pair from ASOS that look great with a long sleeve white or khaki top and some converse. My final pair are from Jojo Maman Bebe (gifted), this pair has a tighter leg so look a bit smarter.

Gradual Tan

I've never had more admiration and love for my body, but I'm human and it's normal to have some days when your body confidence isn't at an all-time high. A little bit of sunshine in a bottle (AKA gradual tan) is a true pick-me-up and I feel instantly more confident with a bit of colour on my skin! Be sure to check the tan you use is pregnancy safe.

I'm so excited to be heading into to my third trimester and approach the day we'll meet our baby girl! Be sure to follow me on Instagram to stay up to date with my pregnancy.
